Led by artistic directors Eric Davis and Corey Jamason, Studio for the Early American Musical is a group of singers and instrumentalists passionate about exploring music from early Broadway, vaudeville and musical film. Through innovative live performances as well as a growing online video library, we are dedicated to presenting well-known as well as neglected music by songwriters such as Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, and Cole Porter, as well as championing songwriters whose voices have been neglected.

Taking inspiration from the historical performance movement in classical music, we seek to emulate the original interpretive styles of this music as heard in historical recordings by the performers who first introduced these songs. Our goal is not to recreate the past, but rather to use the original performance style as an inspiration to create contemporary performances that are vibrant and provocative, placing these songs in new contexts for audiences today. Central to this effort are our collaborations with young artists whose explorations of this music will find new meaning for an entirely new generation of listeners.
